Arsenal will continue their summer spending spree next week and complete a deal to sign Ajax’s Jurrien Timber.
The 22-year-old Dutch international has long been on Mikel Arteta’s shopping list but the Gunners decided to concentrate first on sealing big-money deals for Kai Havertz and Declan Rice.
Ajax defender Jurrien Timber wants move to the Emirates Stadium
Timber was heavily linked with the Gunners’ Premier League rivals Manchester United earlier this month but according to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, the center-back, who can also be deployed as right-back, is set to undergo a medical with Arsenal after agreeing on an initial fee of $45m.
There are some points still to be discussed regarding the deal but following the signing of Havertz and after having a third bid for Declan Rice finally accepted, there is confidence amongst Arsenal chiefs that a transfer can be struck within the next week.
Timber will, however, face stiff competition for a first-team place at the Emirates next season alongside Brazilian center-back Gabriel Magalhaes and last season’s breakout star William Saliba.
