Manchester United have had an opening offer worth around $50m for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana immediately rejected.
The 27-year-old enjoyed an excellent season at the Nerazzuri following his move last summer from Ajax and is United’s first choice to take the new number-one role off the out-of-contract David De Gea whose future at Old Trafford remains unclear.
Andre Onana wanted by Red Devils
Sources close to the deal believe Inter are holding out for $65m with negotiations likely to continue this summer before an agreement is reached.
The experienced Cameroonian’s ball retention and distribution is widely believed to be a key factor as to why Red Devils boss Erik Ten Hag is so fond of Onana. United are not thought to have been put off by Inter’s rejection and are now expected to come back with a second bid imminently according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Onana worked with Ten Hag during their time at Ajax as the pair won three Eredivisie titles in four years together between 2018 and 2022.
