Newcastle United could be set to sign one of their key summer targets over the next seven days, as a move for Harvey Barnes is edging closer.
Eddie Howe admitted after Newcastle’s pre-season win over Rangers that Allan Saint-Maximin is edging closer to a move to the Saudi Pro League, meaning that the Magpies could formalize their interest in Leicester’s Barnes.
Harvey Barnes among key Newcastle targets
A deal between Leicester and Newcastle could be agreed over the weekend, with Newcastle set to offer the asking price of $40 million, according to the Daily Mail.
Barnes was absent from Leicester’s recent pre-season friendly against Peterborough, as manager Enzo Maresca revealed that the winger was carrying an injury.
The 25-year-old was also being tracked by Aston Villa and West Ham, but the promise of Champions League soccer at St James’ Park appears to have swayed his decision.
