Josko Gvardiol set for Cityzens
Gvardiol agreed personal terms last month with the treble winners and will become City’s second signing of the season following Croatian national teammate Mateo Kovacic’s move to the Etihad Stadium from Chelsea earlier in the window.
Gvardiol, who started his career at Dinamo Zagreb, joins a long list of defenders at City which includes Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias, John Stones, Nathan Ake, and Aymeric Laporte, although City boss Pep Guardiola has decided to use central defenders as full-backs and England international Stones as a central midfield player since the beginning of the calendar year.
Leipzig’s hand was strengthened during negotiations with City due to the fact the highly-rated defender, who can also be used as a left-back, still had four years left on his current contract with the Red Bull-owned side.
