Liverpool were knocked back in their initial approach for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia earlier this week.
However, the Reds will reportedly increase their offer for the central midfielder over the weekend, according to The Athletic.
Liverpool confident of Romeo Lavia deal
Liverpool have identified Lavia as their number one target for the defensive midfield position, as they look to replace the Saudi Arabia-bound Fabinho. The Reds also announced Jordan Henderson’s departure to the Gulf Coast on Wednesday.
Lavia is regarded as a highly-valuable asset by Southampton, and they are unwilling to budge on their price. According to reports, there is currently a $20 million gap in valuation between the two clubs following Liverpool’s $40 million offer being rejected.
The 19-year-old has been subject to interest from a number of Premier League clubs this summer, but Liverpool now appear to be the front-runner to sign the midfielder.
