Erik ten Hag has been reportedly impressed by Jonny Evans throughout Man United’s pre-season tour of the United States, and the club could be set to offer a veteran a one-year deal.
Evans is available on a free transfer after leaving Leicester City at the end of the 2022-23 campaign. The Belfast Telegraph is reporting that the Northern Irishman would be keen to stay at Old Trafford for the 2023-24 season.
Jonny Evans set to be rewarded with Man United deal
Evans joined United on a short-term deal, which enabled him to play a part in the club’s pre-season tour of the U.S. However, ten Hag has been incredibly impressed by the 35-year-old’s performances and leadership traits.
The 35-year-old came through the academy at United, and played over 180 times for the first team between 2006 and 2015. During his career at Old Trafford, the central defender won the Premier League title on three occasions and the Champions League in 2008.
However, he was sold by Louis van Gaal in 2015, and enjoyed a three-year stay at West Bromwich Albion. Following the Baggies relegation, he joined Leicester City in 2018, and played 152 games for the club across five seasons.
