MLS side FC Dallas have signed former Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi as a free agent for the remainder of the 2023 season.
The 33-year-old defensive midfielder left hometown club Real Sociedad at the end of last season and has been brought in by The Hoops to replace the departing Edwin Cerrillo who has joined LA Galaxy for $600,000.

Asier Illarramendi joins FC Dallas
Illarramendi has signed a one-year deal with the option of a further year according to Fabrizio Romano. The veteran played for Los Blancos between 2013 and 2015 and won Real’s historic tenth UEFA Champions League title in his first season with the club as well as the 2015 FIFA Club World Cup.
A Spanish international, Illarramendi is known for his consistency and strong temperament on and off the pitch As captain, Illarramendi led Real Sociedad to an excellent fourth-placed finish last season which qualified La Real for the Champions League for the first time in a decade.
FC Dallas technical director Andre Zanotta said of his club’s new acquisition, “Asier is a high-quality midfielder who brings more than a decade of experience in La Liga. His leadership will be an asset to the entire organization.”
