13-year-old Da’vian Kimbrough has signed a professional contract with USL Championship side Sacramento Republic.
At just 13 years, five months, and 13 days old, Kimbrough becomes the youngest professional athlete in the history of American team sports. As reported by The Athletic’s Jeff Rueter, the striker will now be eligible to play for Republic in USL Championship matches in accordance with the league’s guidelines.

In June, Kimbrough was a guest player for the New York Red Bulls Academy at the Bassevelde under-13 Cup and scored six goals along the way in helping the Red Bulls win the competition which also starred European giants such as Celtic, Juventus, RB Leipzig, and Benfica.
Speaking of the teenage sensation, Republic president and general manager Todd Dunivant said, “Da’vian’s journey with Republic FC is just beginning. He is a remarkable talent who has committed to his dream of becoming an elite player.”
In total, California native Kimbrough has scored 61 goals in 81 appearances for the Republic’s youth academy in his first two seasons at the club.
