Inter Milan legend and vice-president Javier Zanetti has unleashed a scathing attack on former Nerazurri frontman Romelu Lukaku.
In an interview with Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, former club captain Zanetti said, “Lukaku has betrayed us. We’re very disappointed.” The 30-year-old was in talks with Inter Milan over a permanent transfer this summer but it is reported Lukaku went cold on the move and refused to answer his phone whilst enjoying his summer holiday.
Romelu Lukaku betrayed Inter Milan
Zanetti, who turns 50 tomorrow, is still left reeling from Lukaku’s behavior after the hitman spent last season on loan at San Siro from parent club Chelsea. The Argentine added in an interview with Italian reporter Philip Conticello, “We expected completely different behavior by Romelu, as a professional but also as a man”.
Lukaku is still looking for a permanent escape route from Stamford Bridge before the end of the window and has been linked with a swap deal with Inter’s Serie A rivals Juventus in a move that would see Dusan Vlahovic head in the other direction.
According to Chelsea’s official website, Lukaku has not been given an official squad number for this season- further indicating the former Manchester United center forward has played his last game for the Blues.
