Xavi wants Joao Cancelo in Catalonia
Barca are currently without a recognized right-back after head coach Xavi Hernandez decided to ostracize USMNT star Sergino Dest from the first-team squad before the beginning of the season.
Cancelo has agreed personal terms with the Catalans who are expected to use the money received for winger Ousmane Dembele from Paris Saint-Germain to fund the full-back’s wages. Cancelo has already won six league titles across four separate European countries in a successful but nomadic career that started at Benfica in 2012.
Known for his creativity, Cancelo helped re-write the rule book for full-backs with Guardiola trusting the Portuguese’s attacking skills which led him to be in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for two years running between 2020 and 2022.
