Kovar failed to make a senior appearance for the Red Devils despite starring for the club’s reserve side but kept an impressive 11 clean sheets in 32 appearances at Iron Sparta last season.
Bayer sporting managing director Simon Rolfes said of his side’s new acquisition, “Matej is big, strong in one-on-ones, and is very good with his feet. He’s a player with great prospects and we have high hopes for him in the coming years”.
Kovar will wear the number 17 shirt this season for Bayer and will compete with Fin club captain Lukas Hradecky for the club’s number one spot.
