New England Revolution are close to signing free agent Tomas Vaclik as their new number-one goalkeeper after agreeing a deal in principle to sell Djordje Petrovic to Chelsea.
The Revs have acted quickly to find an immediate replacement for the Serbian who has made quite an impact since his arrival in Massachusetts last April. The $20m fee being touted for Petrovic will be a new MLS record fee for a goalkeeper.
New England Revolution set to sign Tomas Vaclik
The Revs, who are currently sitting pretty second in the MLS Eastern Conference, want to sign 34-year-old Vaclik on a free transfer according to The Athletic’s Tom Bogert after leaving English Championship side Huddersfield Town in the summer.
Vackik has been capped 54 times for the Czech Republic and was a Europa League winner in 2020 during his three-year spell with Spanish side Sevilla. The experienced shot-stopper has also turned out for other major European sides such as Sparta Prague, Basel, and Olympiakos during a nomadic career.
