Manchester United and Chelsea have both entered the race to sign 16-year-old USA-born striker Dino Klapija from NK Kustosija Zagreb.
The 16-year-old dual citizen, who was born in North Hempstead NY, started out at New York City’s academy in midfield and was even capped for USMNT at under-16 level.

However, after the family decided to move back to their native Croatia, Klapija moved to the Dinamo Zagreb and eventually signed a professional contract at city rivals NK Kustosija Zagreb.
Kustosija have an excellent reputation for developing young prospects and saw teenage defender Mikayil Faye snapped up earlier this summer by Barcelona for over $5m.
According to the Daily Mail’s Simon Jones, several other European giants are scouting Klapija, including Red Bull Leipzig, Barcelona, AC Milan, and Juventus.
Indeed, Leipzig are currently seen as the frontrunners and are prepared to bid over $5.5m- an extraordinary fee for a 16-year-old. However, United and Chelsea’s obvious worldwide pull could put a spanner in the works for the Red Bull-owned club- whose Europe-based recruitment is seen as second to none.
