Manchester City are on the verge of signing highly-rated central defender Jamal Baptiste after the 19-year-old left West Ham as a free agent at the end of last season.
Baptiste has been lauded for his composure on the ball and recovery speed with comparisons being made to fellow West Ham youth team graduate Rio Ferdinand.

Baptiste left the West Ham academy in May because he felt he had already played enough youth-team football and was ready to play in a first-team.
With strong competition for places, it is unlikely that Baptiste will break into the City first-team this season but may be given some minutes during the Sky Blues’ progress in the Carabao Cup which commences tonight.
