Aston Villa are hoping to bring in a new central defender before the transfer deadline on Friday.
Unai Emery’s side is weighing up options following the season-ending injury suffered by Tyrone Mings on matchday one.
Villa in talks with Barcelona over Clement Lenglet
An option that the Villa are pursuing is a move for Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet. The Frenchman already has Premier League experience after spending the previous season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur.
According to the latest reports from Fabrizio Romano, the clubs are locked in talks, and there is an expectation that a compromise can be reached before the deadline on Friday.
Lenglet is surplus to requirements at Barcelona, and was offered the chance to move to the Saudi Pro League. However, the 28-year-old turned down the offer from the Middle East.
It was believed that he was holding out for a move to Tottenham this summer, but the North London club haven’t stepped up their interest in the central defender.
