Premier League ‘big six’ side Chelsea could make a surprise attempt to sign England striker Ivan Toney before the transfer window slams shut on Friday.
Toney, 27, is currently banned from football until January 2024 after being found guilty of 232 breaches of the FA’s betting rules over a period of four years.
Ivan Toney set for Blues switch?
The Blues are in the market for a new striker before the end of the window and have been linked with a move for Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson. According to The Independent’s Miguel Delaney, however, there is a growing sense at Stamford Bridge a deal could be struck with Brentford over star striker Toney although the Bees would want over $100m.
The astronomical may not deter the Blues too much after spending close to $1b in just the last three transfer windows as Todd Boehly’s major rehaul of the squad in West London continues.
Furthermore, the England international has not been shy in admitting he wants a move away to a bigger club in recent years after firing in an impressive 32 goals in 66 Premier League appearances for the Bees over the past two seasons.
