Premier League giants Manchester United are close to sealing the signing of Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella on a season-long loan.

The extraordinary move between two of the Premier League’s “big six” clubs only emerged in the last week of the window after it was revealed the injury to regular first-choice United left-back Luke Shaw was more serious than first feared.

Marc Cucurella set for Old Trafford switch

The Spanish international emerged as Erik Ten Hag’s favored option with the Dutch head coach convinced Cucurella was the best fit for his system at Old Trafford.

According to Sky Sports, there remains “cautious optimism” that a deal will be struck with all parties willing to get it done before the deadline of tomorrow night.

The move would be a straight loan, without including an obligation for United to buy, with the fee and wage payments being finalized between the two clubs.
