Tottenham Hotspur are set to go toe-to-toe to fight it out with London rivals Brentford for the signature of Nottingham Forest star striker Brennan Johnson.
According to The Daily Mail’s Simon Jones and Ryan Walker, the Bees held talks with Forest overnight after having an initial bid of $54.5m rejected last week for the Wales international.
Tottenham to make last-ditch attempt to sign Brennan Johnson
After seemingly missing out to Brighton and Hove Albion at the eleventh hour for Barcelona forward Ansu Fati in a sudden U-turn, Spurs are still aiming to recuperate a new striker before the end of the weekend and Johnson has emerged as their number one target.
The Lilywhites are expected to make a late offer for the 22-year-old with Brazilian striker Richarlison failing to fill Harry Kane’s shoes at the moment.
Speaking after Forest’s 1-0 defeat to Burnley in the Carabao Cup last night, head coach Steve Cooper said of Johnson, “The speculation is not affecting us – Brennan played the part we wanted him to play.”
