Speculation is beginning to mount that Brazilian winger Antony will be dropped by Manchester United after allegations of abuse were made by his ex-girlfriend.
The news was broken by news outlet UOL after Antony was withdrawn by the Brazilian national team ahead of their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru.
Is Antony set for Old Trafford exit door?
Gabriela Cavallin, a DJ and social media influencer in Brazil, has made serious allegations against Antony which include attacking her with a glass and headbutting her, as well as making threats to kill her.
The allegations made have now been reported to police in Sao Paolo and Greater Manchester.
The 23-year-old denies all charges, releasing a public statement in which he admitted the relationship was “tumultuous” but that he “never practiced any physical aggression”.
Manchester United have pointed towards Antony’s own statement and refused to comment on the allegations at this stage. The news comes just two weeks after it was confirmed that Mason Greenwood would leave the club following an internal investigation into his conduct against his partner.
Antony has not been arrested nor charged in Brazil or the UK.
