Villarreal are set to appoint Real Madrid Raul as their new head coach following the sacking of Quique Setien.
As reported earlier this week by Soccer Times, Villarreal parted company with 64-year-old Setien with the Yellow Submarine picking up just three points from their opening four La Liga matches.
Villarreal set to appoint Raul
Former Real Madrid captain Raul, who is the club’s third all-time top goalscorer behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, has coached Real’s second team- Real Madrid Castilla- since 2019.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Los Blancos have given Raul permission to speak to Villarreal to take over as their new head coach which would be an enormous step up in his career.

Talks are set to continue today but Raul is currently the red-hot favorite to take over the Europa League qualifiers who have been drawn in the same group as Panathinaikos, French side Rennes, and Maccabi Haifa in Europe’s secondary competition.
Villarreal won the Europa League in 2021, the first major honor in the club’s history.
