Real Madrid are prepared to appoint former player Xabi Alonso as their new head coach next summer.
The 41-year-old is the red-hot favorite to take over from Italian head coach Carlo Ancelotti after impressing during his three-year spell as head coach of Real Sociedad B.

Now at Bayer Leverkusen, Alonso has been able to deploy a more expansive style of play. In the first five league matches this term, Leverkusen have already racked up 17 goals- including a 4-1 win over Heidenheim on Sunday.
According to Spanish news outlet MARCA, which has close ties to Real Madrid, Alonso has already been chosen by the Los Blancos hierarchy to replace the outgoing Ancelotti next year, who is expected to embark on taking over the Brazil national team.

Alonso played under Ancelotti at the Santiago Bernabeu and continues to make waves in the footballing world.
