Manchester United have moved ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco right-back Achraf Hakimi.
The 24-year-old has struggled to regain the form he produced when helping his country Morocco to get to the semi-final of last year’s World Cup in Qatar.
Man United transfer news: Achraf Hakimi linked with summer switch to Old Trafford
It is understood that the Red Devils are willing to match the $62m asking price for the full-back who was sent off after 20 minutes in yesterday’s 3-1 home defeat to Lorient. According to Football Insider, the Parisians are keen to recoup money and make serious changes to the squad this summer after becoming frustrated with a lack of success in Europe, being dumped out of this season’s Champions League comfortably 3-0 on aggregate by Bayern Munich in the last-16.
Hakimi, who can also play as a wing-back or in midfield, is a target for United despite the good form of full-backs Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot and is set to win his second Ligue 1 title in a row following his move from Inter Milan in 2021.
