Aston Villa have submitted a bid to sign out-of-contract winger Marco Asensio from Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Asensio, 27, has won everything on offer for Los Blancos since arriving in 2015 from Mallorca for around $4.2m and is now available on a free transfer in the summer.

Villa see themselves as serious contenders for the signature of the left-footed winger, who is also attracting the interest of Paris Saint-Germain as well as unnamed Italian clubs according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

It was reported on Friday that Asensio had turned down a final offer from the Merengues to stay at the Bernabeu and Villa bosses have sensed a real opportunity that they could grab a world-class player on a free transfer now they can offer the Madrid man European football next season, following Villa’s qualification to the UEFA Conference League on the final day of the Premier League season.
Fellow Spanish compatriot Unai Emery is also thought to be a huge draw for the winger, who has scored 12 goals in all competitions for Real this season.
