Liverpool have held talks with the young French pair of Borussia Monchengladbach’s Manu Kone and Nice’s Khephren Thuram as their summer midfield overhaul continues.
Kone, 22, has become a regular in the Monchengladbach midfield for the past two seasons since arriving from French side Toulouse and can play as a number eight, in a defensive midfield role, or further upfield as a number 10. Contracted until the summer of 2025, the French Under-21 international is likely to cost Jurgen Klopp’s side a figure north of $35m.
Liverpool interested in snapping up French pair
As for Thuram, 21, Liverpool are likely to have to fork out at least $40m for a midfielder who has regularly kept out more experienced players such as former Arsenal ace Aaron Ramsey and ex-Chelsea attacking midfielder Ross Barkley the team this season.
Thuram has surprised most pundits in France following his release from Nice’s French Riviera rivals Monaco in 2019 and according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are set to come back in for the midfield duo after focusing on completing a deal for Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, which will be confirmed this week.
