FC Cincinnati’s attacking midfielder Luciano Acosta is currently applying to become a US citizen in order to be eligible to play for the USMNT.
The 29-year-old arrived in the United States from his native Argentina in 2016 when he joined MLS side DC United on a season-long loan and became the club’s record transfer after impressing in his first year.

According to US-based correspondent Tom Bogert, nothing has been finalized yet but the US Soccer Federation have sent a letter of recommendation for Acosta’s application with FC Cincinnati’s General Manager Chris Albright reportedly also helping with the process.

Speaking to the Athletic’s Pablo Iglesias Maurer, the Buenos Aires-born midfielder said, “Obviously, (I would accept a USMNT call-up) it’s not even a question. It’s one reason I started the citizenship process.”
Since returning to MLS in 2021 with FC Cincinnati following a year-long hiatus in Mexico, Acosta has scored a very impressive 25 goals from 78 matches and played in last year’s MLS All-Star match after appearing in the MLS best 11 for the second time.
