Gameweek four of the Premier League campaign ended on Sunday afternoon, with potential crucial wins for Arsenal, Manchester United and Watford: Here is what happened in those games.
Lacazette scores later winner for Arsenal in Wales
Arsenal left it late to record a 3-2 victory at new boys Cardiff in the Premier League early kick-off on Sunday.
The Gunners made a good start and took the lead on 11 minutes, as German centre-back Shkodran Mustafi headed home from an Aaron Ramsey corner kick. However, the home side were level in first-half stoppage time, as Spanish midfielder Victor Camarasa fired home at the second attempt from Joe Bennetts cross.
Arsenal regained the lead just after the hour mark. Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang curled home a sublime effort from just outside the Cardiff area. The Bluebirds grabbed an equaliser on 70 minutes, with Danny Ward supplying the finishing touch after Sean Morrison had flicked on a set-piece.
Just as it looked like Cardiff were set to take something from the game, Alexandre Lacazette stepped up with the winning goal nine minutes from time. The French striker turned his marker and struck a powerful effort, which beat Cardiff ‘keeper Neil Etheridge at his near post.
Lukaku double eases pressure on Mourinho
Manchester United recorded a potentially crucial 2-0 win at Burnley to ease the pressure on under pressure boss Jose Mourinho.
The Red Devils went into this clash on the back of two straight defeats in the top-flight. However, the men from Manchester took the lead on 27 minutes. Alexis Sanchez found space on the left flank and Romelu Lukaku headed home the Chilean cross.
The visitors doubled their on the stroke of half-time. Jesse Lingard’s shot hit both Ben Mee and Ashley Westwood before bouncing perfectly to Lukaku, who fired home his second of the game.
It was not all good news for United, though, as on 71 minutes England international Marcus Rashford saw red for head-butting Clarets defender Phil Bardsley after the former United player had initially kicked the forward.
The sending off had little effect on the result though, as the Red Devils went into the international break on a winning note.
Watford continue their hundred percent league record
Watford kept up their impressive start to their Premier League campaign by recording a fourth straight top-flight victory on Sunday by seeing off Tottenham 2-1 at Vicarage Road.
After a goalless first period, the visitors took the lead on 54 minutes. Lucas Moura cut the ball back and somehow Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure diverted the ball into the ball past his own goalkeeper.
The Hornets were level on 69 minutes, Troy Deeney glancing home from a Jose Holebas set-piece. The goal swung the momentum of the game Watford’s way and seven minutes later the home side took the lead.
Once again, Holebas was the provider, but this time centre-back Craig Cathcart go on the end of the Greek defenders delivery to give the Hornets the lead. Spurs had their chances to equalise but failed to find a way to level the scores.
