Former Manchester United right-back Gary Neville believes Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat would strengthen the Red Devils’ midfield following the departure of Brazilian Fred to Fenerbahce.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, the player-turned-pundit explained, “What I will say is Amrabat could come in and play alongside Casemiro, perhaps get him some help. Look, he got absolutely torn to shreds tonight, Casemiro. Manchester United’s midfield were non-existent.”
The Reds stuttered to a 1-0 win on the opening night of their Premier League campaign yesterday and Amrabat is seen as an ideal candidate to sure up a midfield that severely struggled against Wolves.
Sofyan Amrabat set for Old Trafford?
Amrabat has long been linked with a switch to Old Trafford this summer and according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Moroccan international agreed personal terms to a move as far back as May.
However, United are only likely to make a move for the 26-year-old until they complete the loan transfer of out-of-favor diminutive midfielder Donny Van De Beek to Real Sociedad in order to comply with Financial Fair Play Regulations.
