Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are set to return to Fulham’s Joao Palhinha in January after a late bid to sign the Portuguese international collapsed on Friday.
The 28-year-old flew to Munich late last week after the Cottagers gave Palhinha permission to talk to Thomas Tuchel’s side.

However, after failing to find a top-class replacement for Palhinha, Fulham pulled the plug on a move that would have been worth a total of $90m.
With Bayern deciding to go ahead and sell Ryan Gravenberch to Liverpool, the Bavarians’ midfield is looking weaker than ever and they are expected to come back in January for Palhinha when the transfer window re-opens.
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen added fuel to the Palhinha rumors, saying “As we say: most of the time, you see each other twice in life.”
Palhinha’s brother and agent, Goncalo Palhinha, added on Instagram: “What about Munich? They didn’t kill the dream, they just postponed it.
“The affection for the club in our family will remain forever even though my brother didn’t sign… ‘mia san mia!'”
