La Liga side Villarreal have parted company with experienced head coach Quique Setien after a poor start to the season.
In a short statement, the Yellow Submarine thanked the former Barcelona manager for his professionalism and commitment after guiding the club to an impressive fifth-placed La Liga finish last season.

Quique Setien sacked as head coach
Villarreal’s Director of Football, Miguel Angel Tena, will take over first-team responsibilities on an interim basis and take his first training session with the squad tomorrow.
64-year-old Setien was briefly in charge of Barcelona during the Covid-hit 2019-2020 season but was dismissed three days after the club’s infamous 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final in Lisbon- the club’s worst defeat in 69 years.
Villarreal currently sit 15th after picking just three points from their opening four matches.
