Ralf Rangnick has ruled himself out of the running for the vacant German national team post.

The 65-year-old German was appointed as the head coach of the Austrian national team in April 2022 which he eventually began in June when his contract at Manchester United came to an end.

The news comes after it was confirmed that Germany had sacked head coach Hansi Flick following DFB’s 4-1 defeat to Japan in Wolfsburg on Saturday.

Rangnick’s side are currently preparing to take on Sweden in Stockholm tomorrow and are well placed to qualify for next summer’s European Championships in Germany after picking up 10 points out of a possible 12 in their opening four matches.

Speaking to Austrian news outlet ORF, Rangnick said of rumors linking him with the DFB vacancy, “No chance. I decided 14 months ago to work as head coach at Austria, prepare the team to qualify for the Euros, and play a good role there. Everything else is not a topic for me”.

As a head coach, Rangnick made his name in Germany at Stuttgart, before going on to coach Hannover, Schalke, and Hoffenheim.

Following three years as the director of football of Red Bull-owned clubs RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig, Rangnick returned to management before a forgettable six-month stint as interim head coach of Manchester United in the 2021-2022 season.
