Former Spanish FA President Luis Rubiales has been summoned to appear in court in Madrid on Friday for sexual assault.
The 46-year-old is under investigation for his forcible kiss on the lips of attacking midfielder Jenni Hermoso after Spain beat England in the Women’s World Cup final last month.

Under mounting pressure, Rubiales announced he was resigning from his role as Spanish President with immediate effect whilst being interviewed by Piers Morgan at the weekend. However, Rubiales is not out of the fire yet after Hermoso stated that she did not consent to the public kiss which caused an almighty media and public uproar against the Spanish official.

According to AFP, a recent reform of the Spanish penal code means a non-consensual kiss can be considered sexual assault.
Hermoso, who plays her club football in Mexico for Pachuca, stated the unwanted kiss left her feeling “vulnerable and like the victim of an assault”.
Punishment for such an offense in Spain can range from a fine to up to four years in prison.
