Former Liverpool and Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is set to leave Nottingham Forest and move to Turkish Super Lig side Caykur Rizespor.
The 31-year-old has endured a nightmare seven months at Forest and is set to fly out to Turkey today to complete a transfer on a season-long loan.
Jonjo Shelvey set to move to Caykur Rizespor
Shelvey, a former England international, has not appeared in a matchday squad since a now public fall-out with manager Steve Cooper before Forest’s match at Liverpool in April. The central midfielder has since been banished to training with the Forest Academy with a few other first-team outcasts.
After signing from Newcastle in January for a nominal fee, Shelvey had initially featured for the Tricky Trees until a costly error led to a goal in his side’s 2-0 defeat at Aston Villa.
The Turkish transfer deadline is Friday night and there is no threat at this stage of time running out on the deal.
Rizespor, who are newly promoted to the Super Lig this season, currently sit in a very healthy fifth place in the table.
