Chelsea’s injury list has risen to 12 first-team players after just five Premier League matches played this season.
After being left out of the squad for their 0-0 draw at Bournemouth on Sunday as a precaution following a knock to his knee, Moises Caicedo joined the growing list of first-team players unavailable to head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Moises Caicedo joins long Chelsea injury list
Explaining his decision to leave record-signing Caicedo out, Pochettino said: “Caicedo arrived back (from the international break) with a knock in his knee. We need to assess him in the next few days but he wasn’t available for today, that’s why he’s not here.”
Despite an extraordinary outlay of almost $500m on 12 new signings this summer, Chelsea could only field a handful of youngsters and two backup goalkeepers on their bench yesterday, with just Ben Chilwell and former Manchester City ace Cole Palmer providing significant Premier League experience to fall back on.
As well as Caicedo, the other players currently unavailable to Mauricio Pochettino are Carney Chukwuemeka, club captain Reece James, Christopher Nkunku, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Armando Broja, Trevor Chalobah, Marcus Bettinelli, Romeo Lavia, Noni Madueke and Marc Cucurella according to Sky Sports.
