Lionel Messi is a doubt for Inter Miami’s US Open Cup final next week against Houston Dynamo after limping off in the first half last night.
The Herons continued their excellent form sweeping aside a disappointing Toronto FC 4-o in the MLS yesterday which saw Messi depart the field in just the 37th minute with head coach Tata Martino confirming the Argentine had aggravated an “old injury” post-game.
Lionel Messi in doubt to make final
Messi’s teammate Jord Alba was also forced off in the first half through injury with Martino confirming both players would definitely miss Sunday’s Florida derby against Orlando City.
“There is no chance they will be there on Sunday. I know they have a final to play (on Wednesday) but they won’t go near the pitch if they can’t play.”
Messi is yet to lose any of the 11 matches he has featured in for Inter Miami following his transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in July.
At the time of Messi’s substitution, last night’s match against Toronto remained goalless before his replacement, Robert Taylor, scored twice and Facundo Faria and Benjamin Cremaschi completed the scoring in a comfortable Inter win.
