Paul Heckingbottom has been given the vote of confidence from the Sheffield United board, despite the Blades suffering a heavy 8-0 home loss against Newcastle on Sunday.

Many believed that Heckingbottom’s position at the club could come under threat, but the latest reports at TalkSport have claimed that the manager’s position remains safe.

It was a damaging day for the Blades in the Premier League on Sunday, as they conceded three in the first half and five in the second period against Eddie Howe’s Newcastle.

The defeat was the biggest that Sheffield United have suffered in their league history, and it was the first time that they had conceded eight goals since a 10-3 loss against Middlesbrough in November 1933.

Heckingbottom has been in charge of the first-team since Chris Wilder departed the club in March 2021. Despite suffering relegation from the Premier League, he was appointed manager on a permanent basis in November 2021.

The Blades fell in the semi-finals of the playoffs in 2021-22, but they earned promotion back to the top-flight last term after finishing second in the Championship standings.
