Newcastle United winger Harvey Barnes has suffered a serious foot injury which is expected to keep him out of action for several months.
Barnes signed for the Magpies in July for $50m from Leicester City after suffering relegation with the Foxes to the Championship last term.
Newcastle star Harvey Barnes suffers injury
Barnes limped off after just 12 minutes in Newcastle’s 8-0 demolition of Sheffield United on Sunday and head coach Eddie Howe has confirmed the injury is expected to keep his new recruit out for a significant spell of time.
The club and Barnes are now evaluating whether he will have to undergo surgery on what Howe has described as a very unusual injury.
Speaking ahead of Newcastle’s Carabao Cup fixture tomorrow night against Manchester City, Howe said: “He was down after the game because I think he knew it wasn’t your normal injury… I think he probably feared the worst because there was nobody around him.
“We know he’s a top-quality player who still has a massive part to play.”
