For the last few years, Scottish winger Ryan Fraser has been in and out of the Bournemouth team producing flashes of magic. However, due to inconsistency, the diminutive winger had failed to nail down a starting role, until this season that is.

Now, though, not only is he starting at club level, he is thriving for the Cherries. Fraser is playing well for Scotland too, which could be vital for the Scots hopes of promotion to the B Groups in the Nations League.

Influence growing for Scotland

Fraser has had a big reputation in his homeland since breaking into the Aberdeen first-team at a young age. Nicknamed ‘The Scottish Messi’, Fraser is just now making an impact in international football. He is the sort of creative and exciting player that Scotland have missed in recent years.

On Saturday night, the winger scored and produced an assist in Scotland’s 4-0 away win in Albania in Group C1 of the Nations League. The display was typical of what Fraser has been producing at club level for Bournemouth this season.

Scotland face a home game with Israel on Tuesday night, which could see them promoted. Alex McLeish’s side are the favourites to win the clash. Everybody connected with Scotland will no doubt hope that Fraser produces another stellar display at Hampden Park, as the winger could once again make a big difference for his national side.

In form Cherry

The 24-year-old is now a key player for Premier League Bournemouth, who are currently sixth-place in the top-flight table. Under the guidance of the highly-rated Eddie Howe, Fraser has found a newfound level of consistency.

Fraser has scored three times, produced six assists this season, and started all 13 of the Cherries top-flight games this season. A sustained run of starts has certainly helped the winger’s consistency, which could even improve in the future. He has already contributed to more goals in the top-flight this season than the whole of the last campaign.

Fraser’s numbers could have been better if it were not for some wayward finishing from his Cherries teammates, with England striker Callum Wilson amongst the chief culprits, despite a promising campaign in front of goal.

Still has a lot of potential

There is definitely more to come from Fraser in the future. At 24, he is just starting to make his mark in the Premier League and the signs are positive that the winger will get even better in the near future.

If he continues in his current vein, Ryan Fraser could be a shining light for both Bournemouth and Scotland for years to come. In fact, if Fraser keeps up his current form, he may well be playing on a bigger stage than the Vitality Stadium in the next few seasons.

For now, Fraser will be concentrating on producing a good performance for his national team and helping them to promotion in the Nations League. Next weekend he will be back to terrorising Premier League defences for the Cherries, though.
