According to England boss Gareth Southgate, England captain Harry Kane is ‘The best goalscorer in the world’. That is a big compliment and maybe just a case of the England boss getting carried away by Kane’s late winning goal in a 2-1 win over Croatia.
Kane’s poacher’s strike with just five minutes remaining of the game means that England finished top of Group A4 and will take part in next year’s semi-finals in Portugal. The winner of the Nations League will get a play-off spot in the European Championships, in case they fail to qualify via their group.
Kane may be the best number nine in the world
It is difficult to argue with Gareth Southgate’s assessment. However, I believe he got his wording wrong, as maybe he should have said that Kane is ‘The best number nine in the world’
There is a certainly diminutive Argentinian at Barcelona named Lionel Messi who easily surpasses Kane when it comes to the best goalscorer accolade.
However, when it comes to number nines, Tottenham’s Kane is arguably the best in the business. He is not just an old-fashioned poacher. The 25-year-old is the focal point of the attack and contributes to the team’s all-around play.
When his team needs him, whether that is Spurs or England, Kane is highly capable of delivering a crucial goal, just as he did on Sunday afternoon for the Three Lions. The goal ended a run of eight games without a goal for Kane with the national team, a very rare run by his high standards.
Possible to beat Wayne Rooney’s goalscoring record
The England captain recently stated that he believed it was possible for him to catch beat record goalscorer, Wayne Rooney’s 53 goals for the national team. Rooney, who recently officially retired from international football, stated that he believed that Kane could go on and break his record.
The forward is not an arrogant player but stated that he could beat Rooney record if England bosses keep picking him and he can stay in form, which is a fair assessment. He also stated that he does not look too far ahead when it comes to targets.
The Tottenham striker has now scored 20 goals for the Three Lions and bettering Rooney’s record is definitely a realistic target.
Harry Kane is a natural born goalscorer
Whether Harry Kane is ‘The best goalscorer in the world’ is up for discussion. However, what is not up for discussion is the fact that the Tottenham forward is a natural born goalscorer.
He scores all kinds of goals and has a knack of being in the right place at the right time to score goals. Kane has been a prolific goalscorer for the last few seasons. In fact, no player has been as prolific in the Premier League as the Spurs striker has in the last three seasons.
If England are to win the Nations League next summer in Portugal, which they are outsiders to do, then Kane’s natural ability to sniff out a goal could well be key to any potential victory.
