Gunners continue unbeaten record at Bournemouth
Arsenal recorded a 2-1 win at Bournemouth in the days early kick-off to make it 17 games unbeaten in all competitions.
Arsenal went close to taking the lead on minutes, as Lucas Torreira’s fiercely struck effort came back off the post. The visitors took the lead on the half-hour mark in bizarre fashion.
Wing-back Sead Kolasinac found space down the flank and fired a cross into the box. Bournemouth’s Colombian midfielder Jefferson Lerma slid in to intercept the centre, only to volley spectacularly past his own goalkeeper.
The Cherries hit back in first-half stoppage-time, though with a superb team move involving Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser and David Brooks who found Josh King in the area and the Norwegian curled a powerful effort beyond Bernd Leno in the visitor’s goal.
The Gunners regained the lead on 67 minutes. The ever-dangerous Kolasinac found space once again and this time fired a low cross to the back post, and striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang slid in to finish.
The home side pushed for an equaliser and with five minutes remaining, Lerma saw a long-range effort come back off the post.
The win moved Arsenal to within a point of fourth-place Chelsea in the battle for the Champions League spots. Meanwhile, the Cherries have now lost their last three league games and are eighth-place in the table, seven points behind the team from north London. The Gunners odds to finish fourth place have shortened slightly due to their win.
Mooy double downs Wolves
Huddersfield Town recorded what could be a crucial 2-0 win at Wolves in the late kick-off courtesy of a brace from Australian international midfielder Aaron Mooy.
The Terriers took just six minutes to open the scoring against an off-colour Wolves sides at the John Smiths Stadium. Former Dortmund full-back Erik Durm got down the flank and Mooy scored with a carefully placed effort. The goal ended a 28-game run without a Premier League goal for the Australian star.
Town missed two good chances through Steve Mounie and Terence Kongolo. At the other end of the pitch, Mexican striker Raul Jimenez saw an effort cleared off the line by Terriers midfielder Philip Billing.
With Wolves looking slightly more dangerous, the visitors killed the game off on 74 minutes. Mooy struck a free-kick from 20 yards out that flew past Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio off the turf.
The victory was a big one for the Terriers, as it was only the second time in 23 games that Town had managed to score two or more goals. The three points also moved David Wagner’s side up to 14th place in the table, two points above the relegation zone.
Wolves have now gone five league games without a victory and remain 11th place in the Premier League table.
