The Premier League action continues on Tuesday and Wednesday night, with five fixtures taking place, all with big implications on the title race, Champions League qualification and the relegation battle. Here are the games taking place over the next two nights:
Tuesday night
Wolves v Manchester United (Kick-off 7:45 PM)
Wolves host Manchester United at Molineux, in what could be a vital clash for the visitor’s chances of Champions League football season.
Wolves are currently seventh place in the Premier League table but are only above Leicester on goal difference and Everton by one point. The home sides recent form has been poor, as they have won just one of their last six outings in the top-flight.
Despite that current unconvincing recent run of results, Wolves are unbeaten in four home matches in the top-flight, having recorded three wins in the process. The team from the Midlands also scored at least two goals in each of those three recent home wins.
Manchester United are fifth place in the table, only behind fourth-place Tottenham on goal difference, while ahead of sixth place Chelsea by a point.
A 2-1 victory over Watford last time out in the Premier League means the Red Devils have won three of their last four league games. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team has been prolific in recent games too, scoring at least two goals in all three of those recent league wins.
A 2-0 defeat at Arsenal in their last Premier League away game ended a six-game winning run on their travels for United. The Red Devils have also kept clean sheets in four of their last six away matches in the top-flight.
Wednesday night
Manchester City v Cardiff (Kick-off 7:45 PM)
Reigning champions Manchester City host relegation-threatened Cardiff City at the Etihad Stadium, with the home expected to record a comfortable win.
The Citizens are two points behind league leaders Liverpool, so can return to the top of the table with a victory in this clash. City head into this clash on the back of a seven-game winning run in the Premier League.
While Pep Guardiola’s team are renowned for their attacking play, the Citizens have kept clean sheets in five of their last six league matches.
The men from Manchester have turned the Etihad Stadium into a fortress, as they have now won 16 of their last 17 home matches in the Premier League. The only blip came in a shock 3-2 defeat against Crystal Palace just prior to last Christmas.
Cardiff are currently 18th and five points away from safety after a controversial 2-1 home defeat by Chelsea on Sunday afternoon. A run of four defeats in their last five Premier League outings has not helped their cause.
The Welsh sides main problem of late has been conceding too many goals, as the Bluebirds have conceded at least two goals in four of their last five matches in the top-flight.
Neil Warnock’s side has won just twice away from home in the Premier League this season. The visitors have also lost three of their last four away matches in the top-flight, having also conceded at least twice in all three defeats. The visitors are major underdogs to end that poor away run in Manchester.
