On Saturday evening, Manchester City hammered Watford 6-0 at Wembley in the FA Cup final to record an unprecedented domestic treble in the English game. The victory was a remarkable one by a truly remarkable team.
Watford hammered after a bright start
Watford made a bright start, with Ederson having to deny Roberto Pereyra before the Hornets saw a penalty appeal for handball against Vincent Kompany dismissed. The centre-backs hands were by his side, but referees have awarded spot-kicks for similar incidents this season.
Once City got a foothold through a 26-minute David Silva deflected effort, City seemed to be in complete control. The Citizens doubled their lead 12 minutes later. Bernardo Silva played a superb ball over the top of the Hornets defence and Gabriel Jesus volleyed past Heurelho Gomes before Raheem Sterling made sure of the effort on the line. In the end, the goal was credited to the Brazilian international.
Pep Guardiola’s team introduced Kevin De Bruyne early in the second half and the Belgian played a key role for the rest of the game. The midfielder made it three on 61 minutes. City hit the Hornets with a devastating counter-attack that saw Jesus square the ball to the unmarked De Bruyne, who rounded Gomes before taking a touch and slotting home.
The Belgian then returned the favour for the Brazilian, as he played the striker in on goal and he calmly fired past Gomes in the Hornets goal on 68 minutes.
City made it five on 81 minutes, as Sterling did definitely get on the scoresheet this time, poking home from a superb cross from Bernardo Silva. Sterling finished off the rout on 87 minutes, scoring at the second attempt after the ball had rebounded off the post.
A farewell to City great
The victory proved to be the last in sky blue shirt for centre-back and captain Vincent Kompany. The 33-year-old has now revealed that he will move on this summer with his city contract expiring.
Kompany has been a stalwart in the City team in his 11 years with the club. The Belgian Has enjoyed a trophy-laden period with the Citizens, having won every trophy that English football has to offer.
The former Anderlecht defender has been a rock at times for the Manchester club and he will no doubt go down as a City legend. The current group of players are etching their names further into the history of the Citizens. This team will be talked about for years to come and at the centre of it all is Kompany, whose leadership will surely be missed in the dressing room.

Manchester City are right up there with the best teams to have ever graced the English game. Some would say they are the best team. However, other former great teams have also won European silverware and that the Citizens are desperate to win the Champions League in the near future.
Despite that perceived failure in the Champions League recent seasons, the Citizens are a truly special team. The Citizens domination of the English game is unlikely to end anytime soon. In fact, they are already the favourites to win the Premier League next season.
