In a strange twist of fate, it seems that Brazilian superstar Neymar could be set for a move to Real Madrid from PSG according to Spanish news outlet AS. The two clubs are in talks over the forward, who could be heading to the Spanish capital.
Barcelona could not afford Neymar
Barcelona had been the favourites to re-sign the forward. However, it seems that their arch-rivals in Spain are now in pole position to sign him. The long and the short of it is that Barcelona could not come up with a good enough financial package to sign the forward.
There were a number of reports suggesting that the club from Catalonia were willing to use the likes of Samuel Umtiti, Ivan Rakitic and Philippe Coutinho in a swap deal. However, it is believed that all three stated that they wanted to remain with the club.
PSG more willing to negotiate with Real Madrid
There is still bad blood between Barcelona and PSG over the finer details of the Brazilian’s world-record move to Paris two years ago. PSG also feel animosity towards Barcelona, as they believe that they have unsettled the forward in an effort to re-sign him this summer. It appeared that PSG’s only option was to lower their asking price for the Catalan giants.
The player obviously wants to leave the French giants. However, understandably the Parisians want to recoup the majority of the £200million fee they paid for the forward. If PSG does not sell the forward, then they will have an unhappy player on massive wages in their squad. It’s not an ideal situation for a club attempting to win the Champions League.
A deal with Real Madrid may just prove the perfect solution for everybody involved. There are very few clubs in world football with the profile and finances to sign a player like Neymar. The AS report claims that the forward could even join Real Madrid on a season-long loan deal. Seemingly Barcelona never received this sort of opportunity, due to the poor relations between the clubs no doubt.
A good move for Neymar
In terms of loyalty, a move to Real Madrid for Neymar would certainly not go down too well with Barcelona. The Brazilian forward may have enjoyed his time in Catalonia, but he may well see a return to Spanish football with Los Blancos as too good an opportunity to turn down.
Real Madrid is arguably the biggest club in the world. However, last season Los Blancos struggled for results and need a big recovery campaign. The return of Zinedine Zidane at the end of last season did little to revive the team’s fortunes.
The arrival of one of the games current superstars could lift the club and team. He may come with baggage. However, he is an undoubted talent on the pitch. The deal makes sense from Real Madrid and the player’s point of view. The only way a loan deal would make sense for PSG is if they are playing the long and hoping to sell the forward for a bigger fee next summer. If that is there plan then it is logical solution to a difficult situation.
Will Neymar be heading to Madrid before the European transfer window closes?
