The Premier League has an early kick-off this weekend for gameweek three, as Aston Villa host Everton at Villa Park on Friday night. The return of the English top-flight sees the return of our ones to watch. Our gameweek two picks produced mixed results. Here are our ones to watch for gameweek three:
Anthony Martial (Manchester United, £7.7m)
The France international has at times been playing in a central attacking role for United this season, which has yielded goals against Chelsea and last time out Wolves. Martial has picked up three bonus points and a home game with Crystal Palace this weekend. None of United’s next four games rank above three in the FPL difficulty rating, so Martial looks to be a shrewd investment at £7.7m. We think he is such a good pick that we have now selected him for two straight weeks!
Mason Mount (Chelsea, £6.1m)
The 20-year-old has started both of Chelsea’s league games this season against Manchester United and last time out against Leicester. The attacking midfielder produced bright displays in both games, scoring against the Foxes in a 1-1 draw. However, it was not just his goal that was encouraging. He looked lively and probably should have scored a hat-trick against Brenan Rodgers side.
Chelsea’s opponents this weekend Norwich play a very attacking style, which could play into the hands of a player like Mount. The former Derby loanee is likely to get lots of room to operate in. At £6.1million, the youngster looks to be a real bargain. After the Norwich game, the Blues face Sheffield United and Wolves, which are not terrible fixtures.
Bernard (Everton, £6.5M)
The diminutive Brazilian attacking midfielder opened his Premier League campaign last time out in a 1-0 win over Watford. The goal, clean sheet and bonus points helped the former Shakhtar star pick up 11 points.
The Toffees have now quite hit their attacking stride yet this season. However, a favourable run of fixtures gives the attacking midfielder the chance to add to his points tally. Everton faces just one team ranked over three in the FPL difficulty ranking in their next eight matches, starting with a trip to Aston Villa on Friday night, a game Marco Silva’s side are favourites to win.
Just like Mount, Bernard fits into that potentially mid-range bargain midfield category. The Brazilian did not get the rewards his attacking play deserved last season. His first Toffees goal may just lead to a far more prolific period for the Bernard.
Teemu Pukki (Norwich, £6.8m)
The Finnish international has made a sensational start to the campaign after his prolific season with the Canaries last season. The 29-year-old former Celtic star has scored four times in his opening two Premier League appearances.
A hat-trick against Newcastle last time out saw the forward pick up 17 points, including maximum bonus points. The Canaries host Chelsea on Saturday in the early kick-off. The Blues may be tough opponents, but have not exactly been solid at the back and Pukki proved against Liverpool that he can score against any team. Despite a rise in his original price of £6.5m, he still looks to be a bargain.
