For much of Romelu Lukaku’s time at Everton, many considered him to have all the qualities to be a world-class forward. He was quick, strong and was prolific in front of goal. Many of the attributes needed to be a top striker at the top level of the game.

His performances at Everton persuaded Manchester United to part with £75million in the summer of 2017. The move suite both the player and United, who were looking for a top striker.

Perceived a flop at Manchester United

It strange Lukaku had been wanting a move to a so-called ‘bigger club’ for a long time. Yet, when he joined the Red Devils, instead of working to improve as he did during his time on Merseyside, he suffered from complacency, or so it seemed.

Once he moved to United, it seems like the forward felt that he had made it and didn’t have to do anything else. Of course, he scored a decent amount of goals for the Red Devils.

However, he failed to live up to his price tag or reputation at United. In fact, in his last season in Manchester, he appeared overweight. The fans turned on him and his exit from the club seemed inevitable this summer.

Will he be a success at Inter?

The switch from Manchester United to Italian giants under Antonio Conte could be exactly what Lukaku needs right now. It is a fresh start for the Belgium international. A chance to prove that he is not a massive flop.

However, he must learn from his time with the Red Devils. He cannot afford complacency. From all accounts at Everton, he was always keen to learn and develop.

That aspect of his personality seemed to go missing in Manchester. Hopefully he will want to improve and fulfil his immense potential in Milan. He has made an encouraging start to his Nerazzurri career, as he has scored in both his appearances for Inter in Serie A.

The second goal came in a 2-1 win at Cagliari last time out, where the forward had to endure monkey chants. Cagliari had pledged to identify and ban the individuals responsible for the chants. It was the same ground was where now Everton striker Moise Kean endured similarly archaic behaviour last season while with Juventus.

Inter need Lukaku’s goals to aide title bid

The arrival of boss Antonio Conte and Lukaku this summer have raised expectations among Inter fans. The Nerazzurri look to be in a very strong position to challenge for the Scudetto this season. However, they are outsiders to win the Italian top-flight, with reigning champions Juventus once again the favourites to win the title.

If Romelu Lukaku can hit top form, his goals can power Inter’s title bid. The 26-year-old certainly needs to do better in Milan than he did in Manchester. He has always had ambitions of being one of the worlds best players.

He is only in his mid-twenties, so he still has time to fulfil his potential. Lukaku is an intelligent guy and will know that he cannot afford to waste this latest chance to become a top player.
