In the Premier League’s early kick-off on Saturday, Everton host West Ham at Goodison Park in what could be a crucial clash for Toffees boss Marco Silva.
Everton (Odds 10/11 for victory)
The home side is on a terrible run of form in the Premier League, having suffered four straight league defeats. The woeful run of form has seen the Merseysider’s slip into the relegation zone, despite such promise at the beginning of the campaign.
The poor run of form has also brought head coach Marco Silva’s future at the club into doubt. In fact, some are speculating that the Portuguese boss will lose his job if his team suffer defeat against the Hammers this weekend. The whole team has underperformed for much of the season.
Even their usual strong form has taken a nosedive of late, as they have now lost their previous two home games against Sheffield United and Manchester City, conceding at least twice in both matches. In comparison, prior to the defeats they had recorded six straight league wins, conceding just twice, while keeping clean sheets in six of their previous seven home matches.
The Toffees have lost two of their last three meetings with the Irons, after previously being one of their bogey teams. Last season the team from the capital recorded a comfortable 3-1 win at Goodison Park.
West Ham (Odds of 11/4 for victory)
The visitors are currently on an inconsistent run, which has been typical of the Irons in recent seasons. Manuel Pellegrini’s team are eighth-place in the Premier League table but have won just once in their last four league outings. A 2-1 home defeat by Crystal Palace last time out ended a six-game unbeaten run for the Irons in the Premier League. It was also just their second defeat of the Premier League season.
The game against Palace means that the visitors have now conceded at least two goals in their last two top-flight outings, having previously kept three straight clean sheets in the Premier League.
The Hammers have been happy on their travels of late, as they are unbeaten in six away games in the top-flight. However, three of their last four away games have finished in draws. They have also won just three times in 14 matches outside of the capital.
Conclusion
Everton’s recent form has been nothing short of atrocious in recent games. They will head into this game with trepidation, rather than confidence. However, they know they need to produce a big display after the poor recent showings in the top-flight.
West Ham are just so unpredictable and it is hard to know what to expect from them from game to game. Before last season. Goodison Park had been a graveyard for the Hammers in terms of wins.
We don’t believe the Hammers will win in this clash, as we are backing the draw at odds of 13/5, which is likely to keep boss Marco Silva in a job for another week at least.
