Prediction and odds for the game: Inter (8/13) v Barcelona (15/4)
We are backing the draw at odds of 16/5
When: Tuesday 10th December 2019, kick-off 8 PM
Where: The Giuseppe Meazza
On Tuesday night, Italian giants Inter host Barcelona at the Giuseppe Meazza, in Group F of the Champions League.
Inter
Inter have enjoyed a superb campaign so far in Serie A. However, their Champions League campaign has been anything but plain sailing so far in Group F.
The Nerazzurri are currently second place in the group, ahead of third-place Dortmund only on a superior head-to-head record. The Italian club know they have to better BVB’s result in gameweek six. However, Dortmund look to have a far more comfortable match against Slavia Prague.
Inter’s recent record in the Champions League is not great, as the Nerazzurri have won just twice in their last nine matches in Europe’s elite competition. However, both of those games were in this season’s competition.
One positive for the men from Milan is that they are unbeaten in six games on home soil in the Champions League, having recorded three wins and three draws. Their recent home games in the competition have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in their last four games. They have however scored in their last eight home games in Europe’s elite competition.
Barcelona
Ernesto Valverde’s team has already won the group, so don’t need anything from this game. The Catalan giants are unbeaten in their five group games, winning three and drawing their other two matches.
They have been hard to beat in this competition, losing just once in their last 17 matches in the Champions League. The solitary defeat came at Anfield in that now-famous 4-0 defeat against Liverpool in the semi-finals of the competition last season.
The Catalan giants recent Champions League games have been high-scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in six of their last eight matches. The fact that the visitors have scored at least twice in three of their last four Champions League matches has been a big factor in those recent high-scoring games.
Barcelona have been difficult to beat of late on their travels in this competition, losing just once in eight away matches. Their results away from home in Europe have been unconvincing. The Catalan giants have struggled for goals on their travels in Europe, having scored just three goals in their last five away matches.
Conclusion
This game is a massive one for Inter, who have to try and pick up a win to ensure that Antonio Conte’s team makes it out of the group. On paper, this is a tough game. However, with the visitors already qualified as group winners, the Catalan giants may just take their foot off the gas on Tuesday night.
However, we are backing the game to finish all-square, as both teams are heading into this game in good form. We are also backing the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/7.
Verdict: Back the draw at odds of 16/5 and/ or the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/7.
