Prediction and odds for the game: Bayern Munich (1/8) v Wolfsburg (18/1)
Back both teams to score at odds of 19/20
When: Saturday 21st December 2019, Kick-off 2:30 PM
Where: The Allianz Arena
Bayern Munich
Things have not quite been plain sailing for reigning German champions Bayern Munich this season. However, the Bavarians are now showing signs of recovery after two straight league wins over Werder Bremen and last time out Freiburg.
The victories have moved Hans Flick’s team up to third place in the table, four points behind joint-league leaders RB Leipzig and Monchengladbach. They are now once again hot favourites to win the German title this season.
Die Bayern, despite a run of inconsistent results in the Bundesliga of late, have remained relatively prolific in the German top-flight, scoring at least two goals in six of their last nine outings in the Bundesliga.
One of the key factors in Bayern’s attacking exploits of late has been the extraordinary goalscoring record of Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, who has now scored 19 times in just 16 league appearances.
Bayern’s recent home form has been decent, as the Bavarians have won three of their last four Bundesliga matches at the Allianz Arena. They have also scored at least two goals in all three of those home victories. Their last ten games on home soil in the German top-flight have produced over 2.5 goals.
The champions are 11 games unbeaten against Wolfsburg in all competitions, having recorded ten wins.
Wolfsburg
The Wolves have endured an inconsistent Bundesliga campaign so far. However, Oliver Glasner’s team are still eighth-place and just a point outside the European spots in the German top-flight. The visitors have picked up a very creditable four points from games against top-six sides Monchengladbach and Schalke.
The results were much-needed, as they had suffered two straight defeats against Werder Bremen and Freiburg before getting back on track.
Clean sheets have been in short supply for Glasner’s team, as the visitors have kept just one in their last seven Bundesliga matches. That does not bode well for a trip to Bayern, who now look to have rediscovered their goalscoring form.
Wolfsburg’s recent away form in the Bundesliga has been the definition of inconsistent, as the Wolves have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six outings on their travels in the German top-flight. Their recent away games have been relatively low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six away games in the Bundesliga.
Conclusion
Bayern Munich are big favourites to come out on top in this clash and we expect the Bavarians to record another victory. However, the home win offers very value.
Instead, we are backing both teams to score at odds of 19/20. With Bayern seemingly back to their attacking best we are also backing the over 3.5 goals scored, as the Wolves also offer a decent attacking threat.
Verdict: Back both teams to score at odds of 19/20 and/or over 3.5 goals scored at odds of 4/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
