We are backing the away win
When: Saturday 11th January 2020, kick-off 5:30 PM
Where: The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
On Saturday evening, relentless Liverpool faces a test of their unbeaten run in the Premier League as they travel to north London face Tottenham.
Tottenham
The home side has been highly inconsistent of late. In fact, Spurs have won just one of their last five games in all competitions. Last time out, the north London outfit drew 1-1 with Championship Middlesbrough in the FA Cup third round.
Tottenham’s record in the Premier League has been little better, as they have won just one of their last four matches in the English top-flight. The new manager bounce achieved after the appointment of Jose Mourinho as head coach seems to be well and truly over.
Their situation has not been helped by star striker Harry Kane picking up an ankle problem that will see him sidelined for the foreseeable future.
One positive for Spurs at least is that their recent league form on home soil has been good, as they have won three of their last four matches at the Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool
The visitors have been in absolutely relentless form this season. Even a team made up of fringe and youngsters recorded a 1-0 win over city rivals, Everton, on Sunday in the FA Cup fifth round.
Back in the Premier League and Jurgen Klopp’s team have quite simply been a winning machine, winning 20 of their 21 matches in the English top-flight.
Last time out in the Premier League they recorded a 2-0 win over Sheffield United. The game continued the Reds recent good run of defensive displays, as Klopp’s team have now kept five straight clean sheets. The Merseysider’s rather unsurprisingly considering their form this season have the best defensive record in the Premier League.
The recent win over the Blades also saw Liverpool scored at least two goals for the 11th straight Premier League matches. Only reigning champions Manchester City have scored more goals in the English top-flight this season.
Klopp’s team have even been relentless on their travels in the English top-flight, winning 12 of their last 13 away games, while winning their last four away games in the Premier League. They have also scored at least twice in 11 of the 13 games in that particular run.
With many their star players such as Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold all rested at the weekend, the visitors should be refreshed ahead of this potentially difficult clash.
Conclusion
This should be a challenging fixture for Liverpool. However, with Kane missing and Spurs in inconsistent form, it seems unlikely that the north London team will end the visitors 37-game unbeaten run in the top-flight. Therefore, we are backing the away win at odds of 4/7.
We are also backing this game to produce over 2.5 goals too, as Liverpool are just so strong in attack and Spurs also tend to be involved in high-scoring encounters.
Verdict: We are backing the away win at odds of 4/7 and over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/13. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
