A prominent figure in the team’s potency is striker Timo Werner, who has scored 20 goals in just 19 appearances. It would be a brave man to bet against the forward adding to his goal tally in this clash.
Leipzig have been formidable foes on home soil, racking up five straight wins in the Bundesliga, while also netting at least three times in all five victories, scoring a total of 21 goals in just five home matches.
Monchengladbach
The visitors are still in the title race despite winning just two of their last five matches in the Bundesliga. In fact, Marco Rose’s team trail the leaders by just two points following a 3-1 home win over Mainz last time out.
If the Foals are to seriously challenge for the title, then they know that they can ill-afford to lose this game.
Rather unusually for Gladbach this season their recent league matches have low-scoring with under 2.5 goals scored in three of the last four league matches. The goals have slightly dried up of late. However, in the win over Mainz, the visitors showed signs of returning to form in front of goal, with striker Alassane Plea bagging a brace.
If Monchengladbach have had one achilles heel recently, then it is their away form. The Foals have been truly woeful on their travels in recent games, failing to win in four matches on the road in the Bundesliga, while suffering three defeats.
Rose’s team have been impotent in front of goal of late on their travels, scoring a solitary goal in four away matches in the top-flight. That will have to change if they are to leave Leipzig with anything.
Conclusion
This game has the potential to be one of the most entertaining games of the weekend throughout Europe, never mind just the Bundesliga. When both teams are at their attacking best they are fantastic to watch, which is why we are backing the over 3.5 goals scored.
