Prediction and odds for the game: Juventus (1/3) v Fiorentina (8/1)
We are backing the home win
When: Sunday 2nd February 2020, Kick-off 11:30 AM
Where: The Allianz Stadium
Reigning Italian champions Juventus face a potentially tricky home game against Fiorentina on Sunday lunchtime, with the Bianconeri attempting to stay ahead of challengers Inter.
Juventus
The reigning Serie A champions suffered a rare off game last time out in the Italian top-flight, as Maurizio Sarri’s team suffered a 2-1 defeat at former foes, Napoli. The defeat allowed second-place Inter to move to within three points of the team from Turin.
The defeat in Naples brought to an end a stellar run of form in the Italian top-flight, as the Bianconeri had recorded five straight wins in Serie A. Even better for Juve was the fact that they had also scored at least twice in all five of the league wins.
Juventus will be glad to be on home turf for this clash, as the home side are 31 games undefeated on at the Allianz Stadium in Serie A. The Bianconeri have also been prolific in front of goal at the Allianz Stadium of late in Serie A, scoring at least two goals in nine of their last ten matches.
Another positive for Juventus is their home record against the visitors, as they have won eight of their last ten meetings with the Viola at the Allianz Stadium.
Fiorentina
Things have looked up for the Viola of late in Serie A, even if they did suffer a midweek Coppa Italia defeat at Inter. Giuseppe Iachini’s team are now four games unbeaten in Serie A, having drawn 0-0 at home against Genoa. While not taking maximum points against Genoa will have been disappointing, a big positive for the Viola was a third straight clean sheet. The result also meant under 2.5 goals scored in the visitors last four league outings.
The recent unbeaten run in the Italian top-flight has moved Iachini’s team ten points clear of the relegation zone. It also means that the team from Florence are actually just six points outside the European spots in Serie A.
If the Viola are to mount a push for the top-six, then they will need to improve on their travels. In fact, a 2-0 win at Napoli in their last away match in Serie A ended a four-game winless run on their travels. Their recent away games in the Italian top-flight have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in three of their last four games.
Conclusion
A few months ago, this game would have far more comfortable for Juventus. However, the Viola’s recent improvement in form may make it slightly more difficult for the home side. We are though backing the Bianconeri to record a narrow victory in a high-scoring encounter.
Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 1/3 and/or the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/6.
